The message i was never supposed to see - part 1
I found the message at 11:47 on a Tuesday night. My husband was in the shower. His phone was on the dining table. Normally, I wouldn't touch it. I didn't even want to. Then the screen lit up. One message. “Did she find out yet?” I froze. For a few seconds, I stood there staring at the screen. Then another message came. “Please don't tell her. Not yet.” My stomach dropped. I opened the conversation. There were months of messages. They had been discussing me for a long time. I kept scrolling. Then I saw something that made my hands shake. A photograph. It was me. Taken outside my office. I hadn't known anyone was there. Under the photograph, he had written: “She still doesn't suspect anything.” I heard the shower stop. I locked the phone and put it back exactly where it was. He walked into the room. “Why are you awake?” I looked at him. For the first time in years, I smiled at him without feeling anything. “couldn't sleep.” The next morning, I behaved normally. Made breakfast. Went to work. Answered his calls. Even kissed him goodbye. But that afternoon, I did something I hadn't done in years. I went through my own bank records. Then my old emails. Then the documents I had signed after our marriage. And slowly, a pattern started appearing. Money had been moving. Not randomly. Someone had been planning something. And I finally understood why his family had always been so interested in my salary. That night, I waited until everyone was asleep. Then I opened the message again. There was one message I hadn't noticed the night before. It had been sent three months earlier. “Once she signs the final papers, everything will be over.” I stared at those words for a long time. Final papers? I had never agreed to sign anything. At least, I didn't think I had. Then I remembered the envelope my husband had given me 6 months earlier. “Just routine paperwork,” he had said. I suddenly remembered signing it without reading every page. I couldn't breathe. I opened my almira. Found the copy. And started reading. That was when I realised something much worse than an affair was happening. They weren't trying to hide another woman from me. They were trying to hide what they were doing to me. Then I reached the last page. There was my signature. Below it was a sentence that made my blood run cold. I hadn't signed away my money. I hadn't signed away my property. I had signed something that could change who legally owned everything I had. And underneath my signature was a date. A date three weeks from now. I looked at the calendar. Then I realised something even worse. They weren't waiting for me to find out. They were waiting for that date. And I had only 3 weeks to figure out why.
